Launching Well: Strategies and Points to Remember

The buzz

Launching is one button. Launching well is knowing what that button locks in. Your pairing, your target, your first minutes after graduation: all decided by choices you make before (and right after) you press it. Read this once and you'll launch like you've done it forty times. 🪰🎯

The boring part

What the launch button locks in

The moment your launch transaction runs, these are fixed for the life of the token:

Locked in What it means for you
The pairing asset Your token trades against it on the curve and in its child pool, forever. It cannot be changed.
The target, in the pairing asset's units $3,000 is converted into the pairing asset at that moment's price, read from the asset's pool against USDG. From then on the target is that many units: not dollars.
The curve Its opening price and shape are set from that same target (a virtual reserve of 20% of it).
The supply 100,000,000 tokens, 80,000,000 of them sold on the curve. There is no mint function.

After that, your pool stands alone. No launch's curve or child pool reads any other pool's price. The single outside price read happens once, inside your launch transaction, to set the target. A price swing on $FLY, ETH or a stock after that cannot change your target, trigger your graduation or freeze your curve.

Case: pairing with $FLY while $FLY is young

This is the one that surprises people. Say $FLY trades at about $0.00027 when you launch. $3,000 of $FLY is then about 11 million $FLY, and that is your target, fixed.

What happens next depends on $FLY, not on your token:

$FLY before you graduate Graduating still takes Worth in dollars
unchanged ~11M $FLY ~$3,000
doubles ~11M $FLY ~$6,000
halves ~11M $FLY ~$1,500
  • Your token's price in $FLY only moves with buys and sells on your curve. Its price in dollars also rides $FLY's price. When $FLY pumps, your chart pumps in dollars too.
  • A rising $FLY makes graduation cost more dollars; a falling $FLY makes it cheaper, and the child pool then opens with fewer dollars of liquidity behind it.
  • Buyers paying in USDG or ETH go through the Living Pool first (USDG → $FLY → your curve), so they also pay the Living Pool's fee (The Weather) on that hop. Holders of $FLY skip it. Every such buy is also a $FLY buy. 🍯

Pick $FLY when your crowd already holds $FLY, and you want your launch riding the hive's token (up and down).

Case: pairing with USDG

The target is $3,000, today and every day. Nothing about your token moves with an outside price: its price in USDG is its price in dollars.

Pick USDG when you want the plainest chart and a finish line that never moves.

Case: pairing with ETH

The same mechanics as $FLY, with ETH as the unit. The target is fixed in ETH at launch, so its dollar value, and your token's dollar price, follow ETH. The curve holds wrapped ETH (WETH); buyers can still pay in native ETH (Launchpad Fees and Pairings).

Pick ETH when your buyers live in ETH and think in ETH.

Case: pairing with a stock (NVDA, AAPL, SPY…)

The target is fixed in shares of the stock token. Your token's dollar price follows the stock, and a buyer paying in USDG goes through the stock's pool (USDG → NVDA → your curve).

Pick a stock when the stock is the meme. NVDA-paired robot tokens, AAPL-paired… you get it. 📈

Case: launching into a price spike

The target uses the pairing asset's price at the moment your launch transaction runs, in that block. If that asset has just spiked or crashed (a whale buy, a sudden dump), your target is set at that moment's price and keeps it.

  • Launch when the pairing asset's price is calm, and glance at its chart first.
  • If it just ran up hard, wait for it to settle, or pair with USDG.

Case: the buy that fills the curve runs low on gas

The buy that reaches the target graduates the token in the same transaction, and graduation needs 500,000 gas. If that buy arrives with less, the buy still goes through and the pool waits in GraduationPending; anyone can press GRADUATE on the token page to finish it. Nothing is lost: it just takes one more press.

Your details: logo, description, links

  • The launch page saves your logo, description and links with one signature once the launch confirms. The signature proves you are the creator; it moves nothing.
  • The logo must be a PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP, at most 1 MB. Use a square image with the subject centred: it is cropped to a square on the cards and to a circle on the televisions.
  • Only the creator's wallet can change them later, from the token page. Launch from the wallet you intend to keep.

Your first buy

The contract can take a premine buy inside the launch transaction itself (createLaunch's premineBuyAmount, paid in the pairing asset), executed before anyone can see the token. The launch page doesn't offer it yet, so from the site your first buy comes right after the launch confirms, like anyone else's. Either way it pays the curve's 1.1% like every buy.

After graduation

  • The first 30 minutes are expensive to flip. The child pool's LP fee starts at 3.00% and falls to 0.35% over 30 minutes, so a bot that buys the graduation block and dumps pays for it. Patient holders pay the base rate.
  • You earn only after graduation: 50% of the 0.80% protocol fee on every child-pool swap, forever, credited inside the swap and paid out when you (or anyone, on your behalf) claim it — the Portfolio page shows the balance and a claim button. Nothing on the curve. The one way to get paid is to graduate.
  • The liquidity is locked for good. LaunchHook adds the child pool's position once and has no function that removes it, so nobody, you included, can pull it. Every 15 minutes of trading, its fees burn your token and build its floor: Child Pools and the LaunchHook.

Checklist

  1. Choose the pairing your buyers already hold, and know that your dollar price rides it.
  2. Check the pairing asset's chart: launch into calm, not into a spike.
  3. Have the logo ready: square, PNG/JPEG/GIF/WebP, 1 MB or less.
  4. Launch from the wallet you'll keep. It's the only one that can edit your details, and the one that earns your share of the fees.
  5. Keep 0.0006 ETH for the launch fee, plus gas.
  6. Share the token page: every buy through it counts toward the target, whatever the buyer pays with.
